SOS儿童村组织现已在全世界131个国家建立了400余所SOS儿童村。附属设施共计1123个，如：青年公寓、幼儿园、格迈纳尔学校及职业技术学校、医疗中心等。SOS儿童村的宗旨是让孤儿得到母爱、家庭温暖，使其身心得到健康的发展，将来能够自立于社会。

建立SOS儿童村都要遵循以下4个原则:
· SOS妈妈：即与孩子们生活在一起，对每个孩子进行抚养和照料。
· SOS兄弟姐妹：数名不同性别、不同年龄的孩子和妈妈生活在一个家庭中。
· SOS家庭：每一个家庭都有自己的住宅。
· SOS村子：家庭是村子组成的一个部分，村子是与外界联系的桥梁。
SOS Children's Village co-workers
SOS Children's Villages seek to achieve their goals with teams of qualified co-workers. They have the status of SOS Children's Village employees and receive a salary.
It is basic policy at SOS Children's Villages to employ local personnel. Decisions relating to human resources are taken on the basis of the guidelines issued by SOS-Kinderdorf International by the SOS Children's Village association in the country in which the SOS Children's Village facilities are located.
The work of an SOS Children's Village Mother involves a job profile that is unique throughout the world. SOS Children's Village Mothers are recruited with the appropriate cultural background and are given the training they need to meet the high demands of their work. SOS Children's Villages also employ educationalists, and the necessary administrators and service staffs.
Would you like to work for SOS Children's Villages in your country or spend a year doing a practical or volunteer work there? The SOS Children's Village association in your country are the people to talk to. They will be pleased to give you all the details.
Please note that we cannot organize foreign placements for practicals because that would deprive local personnel of work. Very rare exceptions are only made for foreign-language teachers spending at least one year at an SOS Hermann Gmeiner School and for instructors in the technical subjects taught at the SOS Children's Village vocational training facilities. If you are interested in such work and have the necessary qualifications, please apply to the national SOS Children's Village association in the country concerned.
